seaoftroubles | Lost and Found

We're skipping the trouble here (I am SO EXCITED to skip this trouble!), so this one should be a bit quicker. Basically:

1. Octavia wakes up the boys with a nightmare and they are cuddly and supportive and maybe also awkward because Haven sucks for EVERYONE

2. Jennifer heard Audrey hear that she needs to go through a door or she'll die. Duke agrees to help her try to hear more from the Barn while Nathan helps Dwight deal with a missing kids trouble (so, basically, we set up the structure of the ep here)

3. Duke, Octavia, and Lucifer all try their own methods to help Jennifer relax so she can hear what's going on in the Barn properly. Duke tries yoga/meditation. The other two are welcome to try their own methods. Canonically, it's playing quarters for beer that works, which I figure Lucifer will roll his eyes at the low-brow nature of but otherwise approve?

4. Jennifer hears that they need to find a door in Haven that they'll have to open at the same time as Audrey opens her door in the Barn, or she's screwed. She also hears fog horns. Nathan tries to butt in via phone and Duke is all "YOU ARE THE OPPOSITE OF CHILL GO AWAY". They work out that the fog horn that Jennifer is hearing must be coming into the Barn through the door in Haven, so they can triangulate the door's location from that.

5. SHOW DOWN ON THE BIG EMPTY HILL! Jennifer found the door, but no one else can see it (unless maybe Lucifer can?) until Audrey opens here door. And Jennifer can't open it. Jordan and the Guard show, and then Vince and Dave, and there's lots of yelling as Dave claims that they can't open the door without letting out a great evil (I'm SURE Luce and Octavia will have Opinions on this!). Nathan opens the door anyway, and they can see Audrey in her door past the Void fog and Audrey jumps -- AND BOOM. Splosions.

6. 'Splosion knows them all over (except maybe Lucifer? Though he would then probably see William coming through too? Unless he's blinded and/or distracted trying to rouse Duke and Octavia. . . .), and when they come to, the door is gone, but there is an Audrey shaped person in their midst! Yay! Nathan immediately hands her a gun and tells her to kill him, because Nathan's gonna Nathan, and Audrey goes "wtf, I'm not going to kill a complete stranger, who tf are you people?" DUN DUN DUN.

Octavia wasn't moving. Or saying anything. So guess that meant she wasn't looking to stretch out, no. She was just... holding herself together, like this.

Doubting her ability to actually sleep again.

Duke bit back a sigh, turning it into a soft, tuneless hum.

He didn’t expect to sleep again either.

They all needed a good big glass of something strong, if you asked Lucifer. But no one had, and he wasn't sure what else to do besides lay there with his eyes closed.

He'd sleep fine, if he wanted to. But with both of them so clearly-- still tense and awake, it felt wrong to.

Octavia wanted the two of them to just go back to sleep. At least then she wouldn't have had to worry about screwing up their night as well as her own.

But here they all were.

Goddammit.

Duke's sleep hadn't exactly been great already anyway -- it hadn't been since before they'd gotten back to Haven. It just hadn't involved dreams terrible enough to wake him up or linger the way hers were.

If Lucifer suggested a drink out loud, Duke wasn't going to turn him down.

Lucifer was trying not to resort to vices as a fix-it for everything. So he held on. For at least ten minutes.

But no one was asleep yet, were they?

"Right, I'm getting some scotch," he mumbled. "Anyone else?"

Octavia said nothing. Her grip on Lucifer's hand had softened over the past... however long it had been.

Now she let go entirely. Releasing him, for his scotch.

"Yeah," Duke said softly. "That'd probably be good."

Lucifer slipped quietly out of bed. He turned around, dipping down to press a kiss against Duke's cheek, to run his fingers along Octavia's arm.

Then he left the tiny bedroom cabin and went for the kitchen.

And Octavia...

Rolled onto her back with a sigh. In case Duke wanted to move, too. Maybe get up?

She didn't know.

Duke let her move, but stayed on his side, watching her.

"The bunker?" he asked softly.

Of course he had to ask.

Octavia rubbed a hand over her face again.

"Let it go," she muttered. Sounding exhausted. "Please?"

Duke hadn't been trying to cause any trouble. He swallowed and shifted onto his back as well.

"Yeah. Sorry."

And Octavia was trying to protect him. In a way.

(And just saying that would've been letting him too close.)

"I just want to try and sleep."

He was definitely getting that she didn’t want him close.

He hummed a soft affirmative. Wondered how long it’d take Lucifer to get that drink.

Not too long, thankfully.

Lucifer swept back into the room with two glasses - one scotch, one bourbon.

"Here," he said softly, offering the latter to Duke as his gaze flicked swiftly towards Octavia.

Duke scooted back so he could prop his head on the headboard and accepted the drink.

"Thanks, babe."

Things were totally fine in here, Luce, don't worry!

Octavia had her arm slung across her eyes, now.

As if she could just hide her way through the awkward of this all.

"Darling," Lucifer said, glancing back up at Octavia, "Would you like something non-alcoholic to hide behind? Some tea, perhaps? It's much more effective."

But did he know what really made hiding effective? When people actually let her do it.

Octavia made a frustrated noise, and sat up again, abruptly. And immediately started looking for her clothes.

Maybe she needed air.

"No?" Lucifer asked, sipping his drink as he watched her move about.

Duke could have told Lucifer that trying to help was often exactly what she didn't want -- but he could never help it, either.

He was watching her too, carefully silent, cradling the scotch in front of his mouth.
