seaoftroubles: (Gloria - pleased)
The next day: Jennifer has been up all night talking to Nathan about what she remembers hearing from the barn. Duke goes to meet her at the Gull for breakfast, where Wade tells them about how he ended up running the Gull for Duke in his absence. Duke tries to talk Jennifer into ditching her anti-psychotics, since she's troubled and not crazy. Wade talks about heading back to NYC, then mentions two guys trying to buy the Gull from him. It's Vince and Dave. Duke and Jennifer head to the Herald to talk to them.

Duke questions Vince. Vince claims he was just trying to settle things quickly so Wade would leave. The Guard doesn't want another Crocker in town stirring up trouble. Duke says Wade doesn't know anything about the Crocker trouble. Vince shows off his disappearing Guard tattoo and gets Duke to promise Wade will be gone by the night. "Then I guess the only Crocker with a target on his back will be you." "It's like you actually enjoy upsetting me." "Everybody needs a hobby." Meanwhile, Jennifer asks Dave for a photo of Audrey, and about the troubles, learns about the brothers covering things up with the paper.

It's Founder's Day! There's a . . . very vaguely defined celebration of this in town, including the dedication of a memorial to the first responders lost in the meteor storm six months before. Nathan and Dwight are running around solving a trouble (which Lucifer is welcome to horn in on if he wants), leaving Duke and Jennifer and anyone else who wants in on these convos to wander around town, explaining troubles and why Wade sticking around is a bad idea. Duke tells the story of Nathan breaking his arm and Duke carrying him to the hospital before going back to sledding, as an example of Wade not being able to handle the troubles. He doesn't say who the kid he carried was. Duke heads off to see Wade off while Jennifer enjoys the festival (salt water taffy anyone?) and Duke arranges to meet her at the coffee shop after.

Wade is getting trashed at the Gull. He shows Duke a video of his wife shtupping the contractor. Duke empathizes, but then Wade says he's not going back until he gets the divorce finalized and Duke's like ". . . well shit."

Jennifer gets her coffee. Steps out the door. Realizes she forgot her taffy and goes back in -- to find everyone burnt to a crisp. AAAAHHHHHH! Nathan calls Duke before questioning her. Duke shows up just in time for Nathan to try to get Jennifer to help identify the troubled guy. Duke goes all protective over her, and tags along to try to protect her while facing down a trouble.
Nathan, Duke, and Jennifer go to the fire station to try to find the troubled firefighter. The team there is preparing for the memorial dedication. The chief is aggressively unhappy with Nathan. Jennifer spots the troubled guy in a photo and they figure out that he's a former firefighter who left after the storm, suffering from survivor's guilt. He's about to be awarded for bravery in front of the whole town -- and his guilt causes his trouble to burn people to death. OOPS.

Nathan's big plan is to piss the guy off so he doesn't set anyone on fire. Does the invulnerable angel want to try instead? If not, then folks are on crowd control trying to keep Nathan from getting anyone else fried. Jordan is trying to make sure Nathan survives long enough for Audrey to kill him; when she sees Nathan talking to Don (and Nathan's hand beginning to smoke), she tries to go take Don down. Duke blocks her path. Showdown! showing off guns! Nathan talks Don down by talking about guilt and showing Don that he's setting him on fire. Duke, Jennifer, and Jordan go to check on Nathan after Don leaves. Jordan yells at Nathan. Duke tells him she's wrong and to buck up and they'll find Audrey and basically tries to play Optimism Fairy and Realist at the same time. It's impressive.

Duke finds Wade still getting trashed at the Gull, "celebrating Founders Day". Wade tells him that he's excited to be in town so they can bond. Wade announces it to the whole bar. Vince is there to here and threatens threateningly. Like a threatening thing. Meanwhile, Jennifer decides to go off her meds so she can help find Audrey. Maybe she has this convo with Octavia instead of Duke?
